In the freezing cold, with the air sharp enough to sting, the streetlights and the glow from windows seem to shine in a strangely special way. The sky over Tokyo is not very clear, and there are only a few stars. Instead, the lights on the ground gather and quietly illuminate one another, careful not to interfere too much. There is something like watching each other from a distance, and I find that atmosphere—created by artificial structures—somehow intriguing. As I sketched, I followed that mood, relying on the faint voices of buildings and streetlights as they appeared in my mind and then slowly faded away.
